T.J. Locke, Ed.D.
Dr. T.J. Locke serves as Head of School at The Episcopal Academy, a Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade independent school in Newtown Square, PA. Before joining The Episcopal Academy in 2013, Dr. Locke served as Head of School at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans for seven years.
A Southern New Jersey native, Dr. Locke began his career as a high school English teacher and state champion-winning volleyball coach. He then served in various leadership roles for the Cherry Hill, N.J. public school system including assistant middle school principal, elementary school principal, and Director of Curriculum overseeing the curriculum for 11,500 students across 19 schools.
Throughout his career, Dr. Locke has been a strong proponent of professional development. He believes that empowering teachers through continual growth opportunities and new knowledge leads to excellence in teaching and superior student experiences. Upon his departure from Isidore Newman School, a fund was established in his name to help continue his legacy there of supporting teachers in their professional development pursuits. Today, he works to implement new and innovative ways to invest in teachers and their growth.
A frequent presenter at national and regional education conferences, Dr. Locke also serves on the boards of the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools, the Independent School Data Exchange (INDEX), and Horizons.
A 1993 graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in English, Dr. Locke went on to earn a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Rutgers in 1999 and his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in Educational Leadership and Organizational Theory in 2005.
