Kathy Mitchell O'Neal
Kathy Mitchell O’Neal is Director of Enrollment Management at University Prep, a co-educational day school in Seattle that serves 6th through 12th grade students. As director, Ms. O’Neal developed the Parent Ambassador Program and chaired the Enrollment Advisory Committee and Task Force on Diversity and Community. She has also served on the Development Committee, the Academic Council, the Advancement Team, the Committee on Academic Excellence, the Administrative Team, the Board Committees on Finance and Trusteeship & Governance, and the Head Search Committee.
Ms. O’Neal has worked in independent schools for more than 20 years, beginning as director of annual giving at her alma mater, Holy Names Academy. She taught physical education for 5 years at the Bertschi School and also served there as the diversity, summer programs and admissions coordinator. Ms. O’Neal served on NAIS’s “Call to Action,” a national think tank and advisory council on diversity in independent schools. She was a co-founder of the annual Independent School Fair for People of Color in Seattle and of the Puget Sound Independent Schools Admission Consortium. Ms. O’Neal was the 2016 recipient of the Enrollment Management Association’s Everett Gourley Award, given to an educator whose interest in students and concern for colleagues is an inspiration to admission officers.
Ms. O’Neal is a first generation college graduate. She has a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University and an M.B.A. from City University in Seattle.
