FAQs

General FAQs about CTP

What are the grade levels and basic elements of the CTP?

The CTP provides useful information about student performance in grades 1-11 in achieving essential academic standards in listening, reading, vocabulary, writing, mathematics, and science*. In addition, CTP assesses verbal and quantitative reasoning in levels 3–11. The combined measures can be used to compare more content-specific, curriculum-based indicators of performance (scores on the achievement tests) to the more conceptual knowledge base that helps to gauge potential and support school achievement (scores on the reasoning tests). This comparison can prove highly useful, especially for students whose reasoning and achievement scores exhibit marked discrepancies.

For what grades is the CTP program available?

The CTP covers 10 levels—from the spring of Grade 1 through the fall of Grade 11.

What kind of information can the school expect after testing?

CTP score reports provide robust information on the student, class, and school level to help inform teaching and learning. Comparative information to national, suburban public, and independent school norm groups, as well as district, class, and grade norms chosen by the school are also available. Reports such as the Individual Student Report, Class Roster, and Administrator’s Summary reports are available to help administrators and teachers identify students’ strengths and weaknesses. Parent reports are among the various report options available to schools. To find out more detailed information on reports available with the CTP and CTP Online, click here.

How soon can we expect to receive our CTP 4 results?

Test papers will be scored within 15 business days upon receipt for multiple choice only, and 20 business days if the optional constructed response sections in reading and math are also taken. Please note that no scoring is done in the March or August blackout dates between testing windows to facilitate the updating of norms.

How soon can we expect to receive our CTP Online results?

As students complete assigned subtests results begin to populate their reports. Final reports are available when all students have completed the subtests as designated by the school. A key benefit of CTP online is quick access to the data/reports.

Can we get student result reports to share with parents?

ERB produces two versions of parent reports for spring Grade 3 - fall Grade 11, and a separate Primary Grade Parent Report for spring Grade 1 - fall Grade 3. ERB also provides FREE parent interpretation guides for these reports. In addition, ERB provides a variety of individual level reports which can also be used with parents should the school determine they are appropriate. Click here to view all CTP report samples.

How do I decide which level of CTP to use?

To determine which level of the CTP you should use, it depends on the time of year your school is assessing your students. If your school tests within the fall window, your school should use one level lower than the grade as you are testing content knowledge from the previous year. For example, Grade 5 should use CTP level 4 within the fall window testing. If your school tests within the spring window, your school should use the same level as the grade as you are testing content knowledge from the current year. For example, Grade 5 should use CTP level 5 within spring window testing.

What is the cost of materials for paper/pencil testing?

The cost of CTP 4 paper/pencil testing materials varies by test level and whether or not your school decides to administer the optional Constructed-Response add-on. All material costs are in addition to reporting package costs. Reporting package pricing can be found here. For more information about material pricing, please contact your ERB Consultant.

Are paper/pencil test booklets reusable, or is the material cost recurring?

Levels 1-3 use consumable booklets that cannot be reused. Levels 4-10 booklets can be reused and only new answer sheets are needed each year.

Documentation should be on file at your school.
