ERB works directly with families, easing the process for your admission staff. Our in-depth What to Expect on the ISEE is available for each level (Primary, Lower, Middle, and Upper) and helps students and parents get ready for the ISEE. This guide contains sample questions, a full-length practice test, an answer sheet, and scoring information. These books are designed to make students comfortable with the format of the ISEE.

The What to Expect on the ISEE is available online or as a PDF download at no cost to both schools and families or in paper format for $20.00 per copy.  Paper format copies of the What to Expect on the ISEE for your admission office may be purchased by calling (800) 446-0320 or by clicking here and following the steps on the ordering page.

Students applying to grades 5-12 and their parents may access an online interactive practice ISEE to familiarize themselves with the format of the assessment.

Students may register to take the ISEE one time in any or all of three testing seasons. The ISEE testing seasons are defined as Fall (August–November), Winter (December–March), and Spring/Summer (April–July). ISEE does not encourage multiple testing, but we do offer students and families that option.

The ISEE Online is available around the corner and around the globe, allowing more families greater options to meet schools’ application deadlines. ERB has forged a one-of-a-kind partnership with Prometric (a subsidiary of ETS) that provides families with options for testing locations, in the U.S. and abroad. Prometric provides ISEE Online administration at over 400 locations worldwide.

In order to schedule ISEE testing at a Prometric Testing Center, a family must first register their student with ERB. The family will then receive a notice from Prometric confirming the date of the test, the level of the ISEE, the time, and the location of the test site. Only applicants to grades 5-12 have the option to test at a Prometric Test Center. Register for an ISEE at a Prometric Testing Center.

How to register with ISEE fee waivers

Dr. Ben D. Wood was actively involved in the activities of the Educational Records Bureau and remained engaged in these activities throughout his life. In 1985, the Ben D. Wood Grant Program was established in honor of his lifetime commitment to the organization. Students in financial need may apply for a Ben D. Wood ISEE fee waiver for large group testing, but their fee waiver inquiries must be addressed to a school to which they are applying, not to the ISEE Operations Office.

Students who have obtained a fee waiver from a school may register for a large group ISEE test ($100) in one of the following ways:

  1. By mailing in their fee waiver along with the mail-in registration form that is found in the middle of the ISEE Student Guide. A guide may be obtained from a school to which the student is applying or by contacting ERB at

2. By going to the Admission portal and registering online. When directed to do so, the student will enter the code number listed on his or her fee waiver.

3. By calling the ISEE Operations Office at (800) 446-0320 or (919) 956-8524. The student will be asked for the code number on his or her fee waiver. (There is an extra $20 phone fee that is not covered by the fee waiver.)
