How do I sign up to give the ISEE?
A test site application is sent by email to all ERB member schools in the spring. On this application, you may indicate if you wish to administer paper/pencil tests, online tests, or both. The deadline to have your school listed in the paper ISEE Student Guide is typically at the end of May, but you may be listed as a test site online at any time. To register to become a test site, please click on the link below.
Does my school need to be an ERB member to receive ISEE Test Scores?
Yes, in order to receive ISEE test scores the school needs to be an ERB member in good standing. To become an ERB member please complete and submit the ERB membership application.
How quickly will I receive my scores?
Scores are distributed electronically to schools as early as the Monday after a Saturday exam. Scores from paper administrations post on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. Scores from online administrations may post more quickly.
How often may a student take the ISEE?
Students may register to take the ISEE up to three times in a 12-month admission cycle, once in any or all of three testing seasons. The seasons are Fall (August–November), Winter (December–March), and Spring/Summer (April–July). ISEE does not encourage multiple testing, but we do offer students and families that option.
Will our staff be paid for administering the ISEE?
Yes. ERB pays an honorarium to the supervisors, administrators, non-standard administrators, and proctors. This payment applies to both online and paper/pencil test administrations.
What is the cost of the ISEE for a family?
A family pays $105.00 when their child is testing as part of a large group administration, either paper/pencil or online. Small group testing at an office is $175.00 and an individual administration at a Prometric testing center is $185.00. Additional fees apply for phone registration, late registration and walk-in registration.
Are fee waivers available for families in need of financial assistance?
Yes. ERB offers Ben D. Wood fee waivers to ISEE test site schools who have families in need. The admission office makes the decision as to which child should receive these fee waivers.
For which grades is the ISEE available?
With the recent addition of the ISEE Primary for entrance to grades 2-4, the ISEE is now available for applicants to grades 2-12. The ISEE is available online for entrance to all grade levels, and is also available in paper/pencil for entrance to grades 5-12.
Can ISEE Primary be taken in a paper/pencil version?
The ISEE Primary is available exclusively in the online modality.
What is the difference between the ISEE and ISEE Online?
The ISEE and ISEE Online offer the same high standards for admission assessment. The ISEE Online modality provides schools and families even greater choices and flexibility. The only difference between taking the paper-pencil or the online ISEE is the format of the test. Instead of writing answers on a paper answer sheet and writing the essay by hand, the student taking the online version will answer all questions using a computer and will type out the essay.
How should my school decide which ISEE modality is best suited for us and our applicants?
One of the primary benefits for schools of the ISEE Online is the rapid turn-around time for both scores and payments to your staff. A school does not need to choose between the paper/pencil and online modalities. In fact, your school may administer both modalities, depending on the particular needs of you and your applicants. For example, you may choose to administer the paper/pencil version to most applicants during the traditional testing season, yet offer the online version in a special situation such as an applicant visiting the school from out-of-town for just one day. The choice of modalities creates a customized approach for your school and students.
Can an applicant take the ISEE in the paper/pencil version, and then take the online version?
Yes, students may register to take the paper-pencil or online version of the ISEE up to three times in a 12-month admission cycle, once in any or all of three testing seasons. The seasons are Fall (August–November), Winter (December–March), and Spring/Summer (April–July). ISEE does not encourage multiple testing, but we do offer students and families that option.
Are accommodations available for ISEE Online?
Certain accommodations are available with the ISEE Online when it is taken at an ERB member school. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 646-503-2613 for additional details.
Are all levels of the ISEE available in the online modality?
Yes. All levels of the ISEE are available in the online modality, and entrance to grades 5-12 is also available in the traditional paper/pencil format.
How do we know if our school has the technical requirements needed to test ISEE online?
Please complete the ISEE Online Readiness Questionnaire to verify if your school meets the technical requirements needed.
